What is ITF used for?

Can ITF encode letters?
No. ITF encodes numeric values only. Use Code 128 or Code 39 for letters and SKU-style values.
Why does ITF need an even number of digits?
Interleaved 2 of 5 encodes digits in pairs, so an odd number of digits should usually be fixed by adding a leading zero or checking the source code.
